Some days, even a ray of sunshine wants to hide under the covers.
There are moments when even the eternal optimist feels like facing the world is impossible.
There’s no shame in this; even the moon goes dark once a month.

I wrote this poem based on my feelings over the past couple of days. In this ebb and flow of life, sometimes it can feel overwhelming to try to do anything but nothing.
There may not be any external reason for this, so there’s a temptation to try and figure it out, or feel guilt, or even to white knuckle it and push ourselves to produce or perform. But I’ve learned that it’s best to just allow ourselves to feel the blah and do as little as possible.
During this time, I found myself sleeping a lot, and what little energy I had, I spent it on meditating and reading. Learning to roll with it, to allow the uncomfortable feeling of being in limbo, is challenging, but it can be part of the process when you are realigning.
The biggest thing to remember is that feeling blah or indifferent doesn’t mean something wrong is happening. We are human beings, we are not robots. There’s no shame in needing time to be by yourself or take a break from your normal routine. The world won’t stop if you take some time for yourself.
In my experience, resistance to it will only cause more anxiety, overwhelm, and generally make the process take longer. Don’t fight yourself or beat yourself up; instead, give yourself grace, be gentle with yourself, and allow it. Sometimes all we can do is be.
